NomadicBoys Try Their First Vegan Restaurant

NomadicBoys appear skeptical about their 1st vegan meal

Our wandering and adventurous travel bloggers Sébestien and Stephan (aka the NomadicBoys) journeyed around Asia, including a stop in Ubud where they lost their vegan virginity:

During our travels on Bali island in Indonesia in September 2015, we visited Fresh, a vegan restaurant in Ubud. Our favourite was the avocado tartare starter (peppers, coriander leaves and cashew cream cheese) and the Living Lasagne (zucchini, sundried tomato, marinara, almond pesto, mixed with citrus salad). Fresh is a newly opened vegan restaurant, where everything is made from raw vegetables. As vegan virgins, we were concerned we’d leave hungry and unsatisfied. We were extremely surprised, leaving with full bellies and really excited to discover a new way of eating. Everything we tried was bursting with flavour.

I guess they liked it!

Checking Out Hong Kong’s Privates

5 11 2014

private kitchensOur friend and author Amy Tan recently visited Hong Kong and shared with us her experience dining in private kitchens. Private kitchens, she says, doesn’t mean you’re dining in a private first-class establishment. You do not need to be famous and incognito. But it does mean the kitchens can have memberships (but not always) and have avoided certain permit requirements that commercial restaurants would need. This allows freedom and creativity and has caused a new movement in Hong Kong — some of the city’s best restaurants are now private kitchens. They usually can be found in residential blocks, studios, or in Tan’s case, “a little hole-in-the-wall place on the 10th floor of a non-descript building in Causeway Bay.” To snag a table at this particular speakeasy-like restaurant, all you had to do was make a reservation.

“Its Chinese name meant, “Four Sisters Sichuan,” and the owners were four sisters from Chongqing, Sichuan, who once cooked and sold food from a street stall. The food was authentic and made them well known enough to enable them to open a private kitchen. They now run two, and one or two more are opening soon.”

Where We Eat: A Small, Warm Italian Eatery in East London

29 07 2014

bottega-prelibatoOn a warm corner of Rivington Street in Shoreditch exists this quaint little Italian eatery called Prelibato Bottega. It’s a small brick interior of just a handful of tables, handmade pastas, and great wine; it is one of London’s best surprises and one we’ve unearthed after many years of traveling across the pond. We covered London in-depth in our July/August 2013 issue that you can read by subscribing here to get more of our insider tips.

Where We Eat: A New Favorite In LA

21 07 2014

aocWe’ve been dining around LA as of late and returned recently to one of the city’s best – AOC Wine Bar. Helmed by Suzanne Goin (who also runs the beloved Lucques on Melrose and Tavern out in Brentwood) this is the quintessential Los Angeles restaurant – ivy-laced mediterranean exterior, produce-rich California cuisine, cute bartenders. and an eclectic menu of tapas. We happened to be dining next to Christian Louboutin, just to add an extra splash of LA-ness to the experience.

We covered LA in-depth in our Dec. 2012 issue and will continue to post more of our insider tips from the City of Angeles.

Out In The Vineyard Gays Up Wine Tasting Weekend

20 04 2014

hot redFor five years Out in the Vineyard‘s “three days of gay” is developing into quite the homo version of wine country’s traditional barrel tasting weekends, wine roads and Napa Valley Auction all rolled into one — but with better music and cruising. In the words of the event co-founder and ManAboutWorld Global Correspondent, Mark Vogler:

None of the straight wine country weekends include pool parties and COLT models! This year Gay Wine Weekend is going all ginger, as sponsor COLT Studio Group is bringing with them the exceedingly charming and smoking hot COLT MAN Seth Fornea — pictured above with Jared Le Blanc. Seth and Jared will be spending Father’s Day Weekend with  us wine loving gay boys and girls, wine tasting and dancing amongst the vines during the weekend’s signature event and AIDS Fundraiser, Twilight T Dance, at the over-the-top-cool Raymond Vineyards.

wineThere are 18 separate events going on over the weekend and 30 participating boutique, mainstream and luxury wineries, including Lasseter Family Winery, La Crema, Raymond Vineyards and the hot-boys-owned-millennial-hot-spot in Sonoma, Envolve Winery. So pop your cork and get to Gay Wine Weekend. Cheers! Details and full list of eventsGayWineWeekend.com.
